NEPAL AIRLINES
Nepal Airlines is the flag carrier of Nepal, headquartered in Kathmandu. Established in 1958, the airline operates from its primary hub at Tribhuvan International Airport. Serving a mix of domestic and international destinations, Nepal Airlines plays a crucial role in connecting Nepal with the rest of the world, as well as providing essential air services within the country.
When Nepal started its civil aviation service in 1953, the airline operated with three old DC-3 Dakotas made in America, which belonged to an Indian Company. Later, Nepal started a registered airline named Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation in 1958, which had only one DC-3 and the services were limited to domestic destinations like Simara, Pokhara, and Biratnagar and some Indian cities like Patna, Calcutta, and Delhi. The airline started an international schedule only in 1960. In the 1970s, Hawker Siddeley HS-748 turboprops, Twin Otter, and Pilatus Porter aircraft were added to the fleet of Royal Nepal Airlines fleet, which enabled the airlines to connect remote places of the kingdom. Boeing 727 jet airliners were added to the fleet in 1972 when Kathmandu’s runway was expanded to operate medium-sized jets.
Boeing 757s later replaced the Boeing 727s in the Nepal Airlines fleet. The current fleet of Neal Airlines includes aircraft, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A330-200, and De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter.
Committed to serving its passengers and enhancing its connectivity Nepal Airlines currently serves more than 10 international destinations – Riyadh, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Dubai, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Dammam, Narita, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The airline connects more than 25 destinations within Nepal in the domestic sector.
Given Nepal’s mountainous terrain, the airline is vital for reaching remote regions that are otherwise difficult to access by land. Known for its commitment to safety and customer service, Nepal Airlines contributes significantly to the country’s tourism industry, which has come to be one of the mainstays of the economy of Nepal.
